Anti-Star: An Exploration of the Unseen Side of Daily life"

"Anti-Star”: Orestis Papakonstantinou's new exhibition at Toss Gallery captures the realities of everyday life in the urban environment and the hidden aspects of human psyche. Using painting on canvas as a medium, the artist explores the stark contrast between surface glamour and unadulterated reality in his own unique way.

The artist's inspiration is drawn from the city streets, where, as an observer, he captures simple but meaningful moments of everyday life. Focusing on the urban environment and the people that inhabit it, his works highlight concepts such as confinement, fear and escapism from the routine everyday life, creating a pleasing, self-contained visual world that, at second glance, depicts the brutal reality.

Both enigmatic and absolute, the artist’s still images don’t shy away from revealing rich narratives. Through the use of color, he conveys the rich atmosphere of his intent, focusing on the emotions reflected through the eyes and the stillness of the characters he captures.

The aim of the exhibition is to be inspire empirical experience and intellectual reflection on the blinders of contemporary capitalist reality that condemns the darker aspects of the human psyche to obscurity. After all, the "Anti-star" is a character emblematic of the negative emotions we hide by trying to imitate perfection. In the world of the "Anti-star" the truth is not superficial, but rather deep and honest, filled with empathy and compassion for each other.

We invite you to join us in browsing this current collection of works that captures esoteric yet meaningful and substantial human emotions, with a common vehicle and component: the true underlying human personification of the urban environment.

The exhibition will be open to the public from November 24 to December 3 at our gallery, Toss Gallery.
